The She by Carol Plum-Ucci

Goodreads Summary:
On a rainy night eight years ago, Evan Barrett's parents were lost at sea. In horror, he listened to their frantic Mayday calls on the ship-to-shore radio, to his mother's cries for mercy—and to the deafening shrieks that answered her back.
Now seventeen, Evan has gone in search of answers to his parents' strange disappearance. The only explanation that makes any sense to him is that they were swallowed up by The She, a legendary sea creature that devours ships. But when Evan's quest for the truth uncovers shocking allegations against his parents, he must deal with the possibility that everything he knows about his family is a lie.

Evan was 9 years old when his parents disappeared.  That night was lost to him for a long period of time.  He had assumed he blacked out, but it turns out that wasn't the case.  Evan finds out about more than he could ever imagine his parents were allegedly involved with.  It turns out they were suspected of drug trafficking two days before they went missing in a supposed attack from "The She".  Evan has believed for years that "The She" took his parents.  It isn't until a young girl named Grey tells Evan she heard the same shrieking when a girl scout went missing at sea that he begins to look into it more.  He wants answers.  Evan is looking to determine what happened to his parents and solve the mystery once and for all.  Grey helps him through his journey.  Evan's brother Emmett is skeptical, but during a voyage by Grey, Emmett, and Evan the unimaginable happens.  You won't believe how this story ends.  It is all a tangled web of lies and deception while on the quest for the truth.

An awesome novel!  I wanted to find out more about "The She" just as much as Evan did.  The allegations against his parents were staggering, but Evan was determined to discover the truth for himself.  Carol Plum-Ucci is a great author with loads of talent in writing a suspenseful novel for teens.
