Half-Assed: A Weight-Loss Memoir by Jennette Fulda
Goodreads Summary:
After undergoing gall bladder surgery at age twenty-three, Jennette Fulda decided it was time to lose some weight. Actually, more like half her weight. At the time, Jennette weighed 372 pounds.
Jennette was not born fat. But, by fifth grade, her response to a school questionnaire asking what would you change about your appearance” was I would be thinner.” Sound familiar?
Half-Assed is the captivating and incredibly honest story of Jennette’s journey to get in shape, lose weight, and change her life. From the beginningdusting off her never-used treadmill and steering clear of the donut shopto the end with her goal weight in sight, Jennette wows readers with her determined persistence to shed pounds and the ability to maintain her ever-present sense of self.

I was pleasantly surprised with this novel! I wouldn't typically pick up a book like this, but when Amazon had their Sunshine Deals I couldn't pass up a 99 cent book that sounded pretty good. I laughed out loud so much when reading this! I got funny looks from strangers, but it was worth it. Jennette reminds us that weight-loss is difficult and won't happen in a short amount of time. She documents her struggles as well as her successes. She talks of the difficulty in avoiding donuts and other sweets. Jennette also reminds us not to deprive ourselves, but rather celebrate the strength and accomplishments we've made. I loved this book! I thought it was so inspiring and uplifting. I feel a much stronger need to workout and get in shape to make myself stronger than to just lose weight. I think any women could relate to this book if she's ever had a few pounds to lose.
