Killer (PLL #6) by Sara Shepard

Publication Date: 1/19/2010
Publisher: HarperTeen
Pages: 352
Format: Paperback
Source: Library

Goodreads Summary:
In picture-perfect Rosewood, Pennsylvania, ash-blond highlights gleam in the winter sun and frozen lakes sparkle like Swarovski crystals. But pictures often lie— and so do Rosewood's four prettiest girls.
Hanna, Aria, Spencer, and Emily have been lying ever since they became friends with beautiful Alison DiLaurentis. Ali made them do terrible things—things they had to keep secret for years. And even though Ali was killed at the end of seventh grade, their bad-girl ways didn't die with her.
Hanna's on a mission to corrupt Rosewood's youth, starting with a very attractive sophomore. Aria's snooping into her boyfriend's past. Spencer's stealing— from her family. And pure little Emily's abstaining from abstinence.
The girls should be careful, though. They thought they were safe when Ali's killer was arrested and A's true identity was finally revealed. But now there's a new A in town turning up the heat. And this time Rosewood is going to burn.

Rosewood is a place where bad things continue to happen.  Hanna, Aria, Spencer and Emily have so many secrets it's hard to keep count.  Hanna is trying to be friends with two girls she used to hate.  She's also trying to steal the guy her sister says she's interested in.  Spencer believes she has found her real mom and makes the trip to New York to discover who she is, but her entire college fund has now been wiped out.  The apartment she wanted to rent?  Doesn't exist.  Aria is taking a look at her new boyfriend, Ali's brother's past.  She doesn't seem too thrilled about what she finds.  As for Emily, her and her boyfriend may take things a little too far and someone's mommy knows all about it.

There has been a new A in town who has decided instead of telling secrets about these girls, they're going to threaten death.  The new "A" wants these girls to continue on the path to finding Ali's killer because there are a lot more secrets being kept than just those these four girls have.

Okay...I keep thinking that one of these books is going to suck, but that definitely hasn't been the case!  I give Shepard credit for being able to keep a series going for this long while still being interesting and entertaining. These four girls make me laugh, cry, and want to beat some sense into them all.  They are young and naive, but also very smart young girls who know that something has to be done.  They are trying to live their own lives while continuing to get vengeance for Ali.  Unfortunately every time they think justice is near, some new evidence comes along from "A" that shows them otherwise.  The end of this book left me saying, what the heck?  Shepard sure knows how to end a book in a place that just leaves you hanging!

I'm so glad I started this series late because I don't have to wait very long to get the next in the series to see what happens.  I'm still stunned by the ending of this novel.  There are no words to describe how I felt.  I mean, six books in and THIS is what happens?!  It makes me mad, sad, and thrilled to pick up book number 7 soon!  Once again, this series is a total must read!
