I've never heard of the German fairytale counterpart to this novel, but I admit this was an interesting book to pick up.  It was nothing like I expected.  I don't know why, but I wasn't expecting all of the supernatural features this book had.

Izzie is a young woman who is dating the most popular guy in school, Mark King.  She is in love with him and has high hopes for their future.  Until, a guy named Tris shows up at school.  Izzie decides that Tris looks like the perfect guy for her best friend Brangane and decides to make a love potion to bring the two together.  She doesn't think the potion will work since she isn't a witch, only her mother is.  So instead she steals her mother's love potion and ends up having to take it herself so Mark doesn't drink it and end up in love with Tristan.

Anyway, this love potion causes Izzie and Tris to fall hard for each other, no matter how hard Izzie tries to stay away from him.  Then weird creatures start showing up and attacking Izzie.  The only person to keep her safe is Tris.  The story is about finding yourself and includes a little bit of romance as well.  The writing is good, but the plot seemed a little rough.  I wasn't exactly sure why certain events were happening in the book and became confused at time, but I was also interested in what was going to happen between Tris, Izzie and Mark.  

It seemed odd that Izzie could just tell people that she was a witch or that her mom was a witch and it was strangely accepted.  No one found it to be weird or unusual.  No one became afraid, but rather they were intrigued and wanted to help the situation in any way possible.  So, overall the book was interesting and entertaining, but there were parts of it that annoyed me because they didn't make sense.  There wasn't a clear path from one point to another, but rather a pretty big leap.  I don't think I would recommend purchasing this book, but if you enjoy fairtytales with supernatural characters as the lead I would pick it up from your local library and give it a try.  You just might like it!
