Life As We Knew It (Last Survivors #1) by Susan Beth Pfeffer

Published: 10/1/06

Goodreads Summary:
Miranda’s disbelief turns to fear in a split second when a meteor knocks the moon closer to the earth. How should her family prepare for the future when worldwide tsunamis wipe out the coasts, earthquakes rock the continents, and volcanic ash blocks out the sun? As summer turns to Arctic winter, Miranda, her two brothers, and their mother retreat to the unexpected safe haven of their sunroom, where they subsist on stockpiled food and limited water in the warmth of a wood-burning stove.

Told in journal entries, this is the heart-pounding story of Miranda’s struggle to hold on to the most important resource of all--hope--in an increasingly desperate and unfamiliar world.

Journal entries was a great way to tell Miranda's story!  I couldn't imagine being a teenager going through this experience.  Can this really happen?  If it does...we are all screwed.  Miranda is living during a time in which the moon has been pushed closer to the earth which has changed the gravitational pull.  What does this cause?

* Earthquakes
* Volcanoes
* Tsunamis
* All kinds of natural disasters that typically don't occur in certain areas of the planet.

Beyond natural disasters are the risks of freezing to death to the lack of heat and electricity.  Many are becoming ill with diseases that haven't been seen for years in the U.S.

This is a new life for Miranda and her family.  They are trying to find a way to survive all these changes, but the questions is...will they all survive or only one?  This is an amazing novel!  I loved reading it and I'll be picking up the second in the series to read soon.  It's a gripping tale that I just couldn't put down.

Glad you enjoyed this one! I read it a while ago and thought it was gripping and amazing as well, even though it did scare me a little in some places.

There are so many books that can be scary if you really think about it. I think any dystopian novel can make you think..what if? I just finished the companion to this novel "The Dead & the Gone". It was great too. I'll have the review posted next week I think.
