Crank (Crank #1) by Ellen Hopkins

Published: 10/5/2004
Publisher: Simon Pulse

Goodreads Summary:
Kristina Georgia Snow is the perfect daughter: gifted high school junior, quiet, never any trouble. But on a trip to visit her absentee father, Kristina disappears and Bree takes her place. Bree is the exact opposite of Kristina -- she's fearless. Through a boy, Bree meets the monster: crank. And what begins as a wild, ecstatic ride turns into a struggle through hell for her mind, her soul -- her life

This is only the second novel that I've ever read written in poetic verse.  I love them!  Kristina's story is so moving and powerful.  It shows how one choice can lead to a lifetime of pain and regrets.  Kristina is an amazing character who has taken a wrong turn down a completely offtrack path.  She calls herself Bree during this period of time, as if Kristina isn't in control when experiencing the monster of crank.  The experiences she goes through are heartbreaking.  I wanted to yell and scream at her.  I wanted to cry with her.  Bree is a crazy out of control teenager, but there is a breaking point in which she realizes changes need to be made.  It won't be easy, but she'll make it out.  A great book!  I got this from my sister and I can't thank her enough.  Now I need to wait for her to finish the second in the series so I can keep going with Kristina's story!
